About the Spacebar Counter

This spacebar counter counts every press of the spacebar inside the time you choose and divides by the seconds. Seventy presses in ten seconds is 7.00 PPS, presses per second.

It works like a click speed test for your keyboard. Click the box once to focus it (or tab to it), then press the spacebar. The clock starts on your first press, so you never lose time getting ready.

Holding the key down does not count. The browser repeats a held key very fast, so the counter ignores repeats and only counts real, separate presses. On a phone or tablet you can tap the box instead.

How the test works

  • Choose 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds.
  • Click the box so it has focus, then press the spacebar. The first press starts the clock.
  • Keep pressing until the time runs out. Your presses per second, total presses and level appear straight away.
  • Only the 10 second mode can go on the leaderboard, so all submitted scores are directly comparable.

Levels

Your score maps to one of 10 levels. These ranges are guides, not official standards.

3 Steady 4.5+ PPS
4 Quick 5.5+ PPS

Tips to improve

  • Use both thumbs or alternate two fingers. Using one finger is the slowest way.
  • Press the middle of the bar. Its edges can feel stiffer on some keyboards.
  • Short modes reward bursts, so a 5 second score is usually higher than a 60 second one.
  • A keyboard with light, quick switches helps, but technique matters more than hardware.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good spacebar speed?

Most people land between 4 and 6 presses per second. Above 7 is fast and above 9 is very fast. These ranges are guides, not official standards.

Does holding the spacebar count?

No. A held key sends repeat events, and the counter ignores them. Only separate presses are counted.

Why did the page not start when I pressed space?

The box needs focus first. Click the box, or press Tab until it is highlighted, then press the spacebar. While a run is going, presses count even if focus drifts.

Can I use my phone?

Yes. Tap the box with one or two fingers. Touch scores are not directly comparable with keyboard scores, so the leaderboard is meant for keyboard players.

Why is the 10 second mode the only one for the leaderboard?

Scores from different lengths are not fair to compare. A 5 second burst is easier than a 60 second endurance run, so the board uses one standard length.

Are my scores stored?

Your best score and level are saved on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to submit a score with a nickname.
